So auch Marloes, eine in Frankreich lebende niederländische Unternehmerin, die in ihrem Kanal auf YouTube nicht nur über ihr French Country Life berichtet, sondern auch über ihr Projekt als Autorin zu ihrem Kochbuch. Sie wird in diesem Blogbeitrag über die Arbeit an ihrem Buch erzählen. As well as Marloes, living in France and a dutch business owner, who shows on her YouTube channel her French Country Life and her project as an author of her cookbook. She will talk in this article about her work on her book. Because of this reason you can read the interview with her in German and in English, so that many readers became the opportunity to know, what experiences she has made with her cookbook project. Erst einmal vielen Dank, dass du dir die Zeit genommen hast, um einige Fragen rund ums Thema Buch und Buchprojekt zu beantworten. Zuschauer deines YouTube Channels begleiten dich durch einen Teil deines Lebens und auch in die Welt der Bücher, wie in ein wirklich einzigartiges Buchgeschäft in die Region Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur. Wie hast du den katzenliebenden Buchladen Mon Chat Pitre in Aix-en-Provence zu Jahresbeginn entdeckt?
Als ich meine Freundin Sam in Aix-en-Provence besuchte, nahm sie mich zu dieser sehr speziellen Buchhandlung mit. Es war eine ganz besondere Ehre von Katzen begrüßt zu werden und mit ihnen zu kuscheln, während man selbst neue Bücher entdeckt und sich zu ihnen umdreht. Ich hatte noch nie so etwas gesehen!
At first thank you for taking the time to answer a few questions on the subject book and book project. Viewers of your YouTube channel accompany you through a part of your life and also in the world of books, like a really unique bookshop in the region Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur. How have you discovered the cat loving bookstore Mon Chat Pitre in Aix-en-Provence in the beginning of this year?
When I was visiting my friend Sam in Aix-en-Provence she took me to this very special bookstore. It gives such a cozy vibe to be greeted by cats and cuddle with them while your discovering new books and flipping through them. I had never seen anything like it!
Das ist wirklich eine Reise wert. Du hast auch immer wieder über ein eigenes Buch berichtet, das du angefangen hast umzusetzen. Wann entstand die Idee für dein Kochbuch und was war deine ursprüngliche Vorstellung?
Ich zeige mein Leben auf YouTube. Eines der Dinge, die mir Freude bereiten, ist sich Zeit zum Kochen für meine Familie, Freunde und für meine Gäste unseres Airbnb zu nehmen. So begann ich zu filmen, was ich koche und zeige meine Rezepte. Mehr und mehr Zuschauer schickten mir E-Mails oder hinterließen Kommentare, in denen sie fragten, ob ich nicht ein Kochbuch machen könnte. Um ehrlich zu sein, das war schon immer ein Traum von mir. Ich liebe es schöne Dinge zu erschaffen und daraufhin fing ich an, meine Rezepte zu sammeln und die Teller zu fotografieren.
Anfänglich wollte ich nur eine Zusammenstellung der Rezepte, aber während der Arbeit am Buch, stellte ich fest, dass einige der Bilder, die ich von den Gerichten gemacht hatte, in mir ein sehr warmes Gefühl von „country life“ weckten. Ich stellte für mich fest, dass ich über das Buch eine imaginäre Reise nach Frankreich fühlen wollte. Ich wollte es, damit es mehr als nur eine Ansammlung von Rezepten ist und stattdessen sollte es ein Buch sein, welches dir ein gutes Gefühl vermittelt und dich mit aufs ländliche Frankreich nimmt. Das Projekt wurde aus diesem Grund größer, ha ha!
That is worth a trip! You have also talked about your own book, that you have make reality. When was the idea of your cookbook born and what was your originally imagination?
I document my life on YouTube. One of the things I enjoy doing is taking time to cook for my family, friends and for the guests of our Airbnb. I started filming my cooking and sharing the recipes. More and more subscribers sent me emails or left comments asking if I wanted to make a cookbook. To be honest, this has always been a dream of mine. I love creating beautiful things so I started gathering my recipes and taking pictures of the plates with food.
Initially I wanted just to collect the recipes, but as I was working on the book I realized that some of the pictures I had made of meals evoked a very warm “country life” feeling. I realized I wanted to feel the book like a virtual visit to France. I wanted it to be more than just a couple of recipes and instead to be a book that makes you feel good and transports you to the countryside of France. The project got a lot bigger because of this, haha!
Ja, das trifft auf viele Autoren zu. Welche einzigartigen oder lustigen Erlebnisse sind dir während der Erstellung deines Kochbuches besonders in Erinnerung geblieben?
Eines Tages als ich an meinem Lieblingsort zum Mittagessen am Buch arbeitete, aß ich ein köstliches Gericht und einer der Kunden ging zum Chef, um nach dem Rezept zu fragen. Und ich dachte, warte mal, ich möchte auch das Rezept. Deshalb kam mir die Idee andere Leute zu fragen, die meisten sind Profiköche, um ein Rezept im Buch zu präsentieren. Dies lies die Erstellung des Buches sich wie eine herzliche und spannende Mitproduktion anfühlen, die mir mehr Freude bereitete! Ich arbeitete auch mit einem Weinmacher, um die Arbeit eines Winzers das Jahr hindurch wiederzugeben.
Ich fühle mich so dankbar, dass viele andere die Begeisterung gefühlt haben, mich zu unterstützen und zum Buch beizutragen und mir helfen, die Schönheit dieser Region und das Leben im ländlichen Frankreich zu zeigen. Andererseits lachen mein Mann und meine Söhne über die Zeiten, wenn ich einen Essensteller fotografieren wollte und meine eigenen Rezepte kochen wollte. Ich bin bekannt als eine von den Menschen, die nicht dem Rezept folgen. Als ich auf meine eigene Art kochte, las ich nicht wirklich die Rezepte und ich begann nur aus meinem Kopf heraus zu kochen und meine Jungs platzten lachend heraus: „Du bist so komisch, Mama, du kannst dich nicht einfach deinen EIGENEN Rezepten folgen!“. Daher fühlen sich nun meine Söhne wohler, dass mein Kochbuch herauskommen wird, so dass ich meine eigenen Rezepte zur Hand habe!
Yes, that hold true for many authors! What were your unique and funniest memories making the book?
One day I was working on the book at my favorite lunch place. I was eating a delicious meal and one of the customers walked up to the chef to ask for the recipe. And I thought: wait, I want that recipe too! That’s how I got the idea of asking other people – most are professional chefs – to share a recipe for the book. This made the process of creating this book feel like a warm and exciting co-creation which brought me even more joy! I also worked with a winemaker, sharing the work of the winemaker throughout the year.
I feel grateful so many others have felt the enthusiasm to support me and contribute to the book and help me show the beauty of this region and life in the French countryside. The other thing my husband and sons laugh about the times I wanted to photograph a dish and needed to cook my own recipes. I am known as one of those people that never follow the recipe. So as I was cooking my own, I didn’t really read them and just started cooking it from the top of my head and my boys burst out laughing saying: “You’re hilarious mom, you can’t even follow your OWN recipes!”. So now my sons feel it’s good that my cookbook will come out, so I will always have my own recipes on hand!
Das wird sicher lange noch in Erinnerung bleiben. Planst du schon ein weiteres Buch bzw. Kochbuch?
Ich liebe diese Frage, denn: Ja! Ich habe so viele Ideen, die es nicht in dieses Buch geschafft haben, so dass ich hoffe, diese in einem zweiten Exemplar unter zu bringen. Und ich sammle Rezepte, die ich nicht in dieses Buch eingefügt habe oder die ich gerade verwirkliche, so dass ich sie in einem zweiten Buch ergänzen kann. Ich habe ganz spezielle Vorstellungen, wie ich es ausstatten möchte, dass es über die ganz eigene Kultur des Lebens in dieser Region von Frankreich, in Burgund sein wird. Aber das alles ist noch auf der „erträumten und vorgestellten“ Bühne.
Ich möchte zuerst dieses erste Buch fertig haben und ich schaue vorwärts auf meine Feier zur Buchpremiere in Beaune am 25. November 2023. Danach, möchte ich mir selbst erlauben, langsam über das nächste Projekt nachzudenken.
That will definetly be remembered for a long time. Are you already planning the next book and what theme will it have?
I love this question, because yes! I have so many ideas that didn’t make it to this first book that I am hoping to include in a second one. And I am gathering recipes that I didn’t include in this book or I am developing at the moment so I can include them in a second book! I have some specific ideas how I want to include that are about the specific culture of living in this region of France, in Burgundy. But it’s all still at the “dreaming and imagining” stage.
I want to get this first book out and I am looking forward to my book launch party in Beaune on November 25. After that, I will give myself permission to slowly start thinking about the next project!
Eine gute Idee darüber nachzudenken, was man bereits erreicht hat und was als nächstes ansteht. Wem empfiehlst du dein Kochbuch?
Jedem, der meine Liebe für das ländliche Frankreich teilt und das einfache Leben und wer gerne hausgemachte Mahlzeiten kochen möchte, aber keine schwierigen Dinge mag. Meine Rezepte sind leicht und einfach. Ich sehe mein Buch als ein Inspirationsbuch, welches man hernehmen kann, wenn man einen dieser Tage hat, an denen man keine Idee hat, was man auf den Tisch bringen möchte, und sucht nach jemandem, der sich um das Herausbringen für einen selbst gekümmert hat! Man nimmt einfach ein Rezept aus dem Buch und man hat ein wohlgeordnetes Abendessen.
Meine Intention ist es nicht herausragende und spezielle Rezepte vorzustellen oder Dinge, mit denen man selbst nicht zurechtkommt. Meine Vision ist es, dich einzuladen so oft du magst hausgemachte Gerichte zu kochen und es von einer Pflicht in einen dankbaren Moment zu wandeln. Die Rezepte sind vegetarisch und eine sind vegan. Ich merke ebenfalls, dass dieses Buch so viele schöne Bilder der Weinberge, der verschlafenen französischen Dörfer, zum Essen und der Natur hat, so dass es ein Coffee Table Book (Couchtischbuch) ist, welches man immer wieder nehmen kann, während man einen Kaffee genießt auf dem eigenen Sofa oder im eigenen Garten. Das ist mein vorrangiges Ziel. Es hängt auch vom eigenen Kaffeetisch genauso wie vom eigenen Küchenschrank!
A good idea to think about what you have already achieve and what will come next. Who do you recommend your cookbook?
To anyone who shares my love for the French countryside and simple life and who would like to cook home-cooked meals but doesn’t want to complicate things. My recipes are easy and straightforward. I see my book as an inspiration book that you go to when you’re having one of those days when you have no idea what to put on the table tonight and are looking for someone that has taken care of coming up with something for you! You simply pick a recipe from the book and you’ve got dinner sorted.
My intention isn’t to share exquisite and special recipes or things you couldn’t have come up with yourself. My intention is to invite you to cook home-cooked meals as often as you can and turn this from a chore into a pleasurable moment. The recipes are vegetarian and some are vegan. I also feel this book has so many beautiful images of the vineyards, sleepy French villages, food and nature that it is a coffee table book that you can pick up again and again while sipping a coffee on your sofa or in your garden. That is my intention at least. It belongs on your coffee table just as much as your kitchen cabinet!
